The Author
Scott D. Idle
Scott Idle never set out to write a book.
He was just trying to survive his own story.
His father died the day before his 15th birthday.
His brother died by suicide.
He’s walked through addiction, divorce, loss, and shame.
And still, he climbed—step by painful step.
From building global drumlines to founding new companies, Scott rebuilt through rhythm, movement, and truth. His climb has taken him to the Super Bowl, World Series, Madison Square Garden, and Detroit’s hardest conversations on purpose, masculinity, and healing.
Lift Others as You Climb is the book he needed when no one had the words. Now, it’s a hand extended to you.
Because no one climbs alone.
And someone’s waiting on your lift.
Scott Idle is a visionary entrepreneur, author, mentor, keynote speaker, and full-time sports and music entertainer based in Detroit. His work spans business leadership, entertainment, and community impact—but everything he does is rooted in a single mission: to lift others as he climbs, using sports, music, and purpose-driven action to move people toward their highest potential.
Scott began his professional journey at SPSS, an IBM company, where he served as a senior account manager selling predictive analytics software. He later joined ADP, excelling in HRIS software and services sales and earning the 2009 Midwest Salesperson of the Year award along with multiple President’s Club honors. In 2010, following the sudden passing of his brother, Scott returned to Michigan—a turning point that deepened his commitment to purpose, service, and transformational leadership.
That same year, he became CEO of Congress Collection, a Michigan-based debt collection agency he would lead for nearly 15 years. Under his stewardship, the company quintupled revenue, modernized operations, and earned national recognition for innovation. In 2017, he was named ACA International’s Leader of the Year for reinventing consumer engagement practices across the industry. In November 2024, Scott exited the company after orchestrating its successful sale.
In parallel, he founded Sidle Entertainment in 2007, channeling his lifelong connection to rhythm into a nationally and internationally recognized entertainment company. Scott created the original drumlines for several iconic sports teams—including the Los Angeles Lakers, Clippers, Dodgers, Kings, and Chargers, as well as the Chicago Bulls. His ensembles have performed for global brands such as EA Sports, ESPN, and Jimmy Kimmel Live, and at major events including Super Bowl LVI, the NBA All-Star Game in 2011 and 2018, and the 2024 and 2025 World Series with the LA Dodgers Marching Band. His work has also taken him to celebrated venues such as Madison Square Garden and internationally to Wembley Stadium and other landmark stages around the world.
Sidle Entertainment has shared stages with world-renowned artists including The Eagles, N.E.R.D., Pharrell Williams, Bruno Mars, Kygo, Pentatonix, and Montell Jordan—creating rhythm-driven performances that ignite unity, joy, and unforgettable emotional moments.
Scott’s public leadership includes his appointment by Michigan Governor Rick Snyder as president of the Michigan Early Stage Venture Investment Board, where he helped direct capital into early-stage companies across the state. He also played a key role in advancing Michigan Senate Bill 385 in 2017, modernizing a decades-old regulatory framework and driving consumer-focused reforms statewide. His collaborative work earned praise from both Gov. Snyder and Gov. Gretchen Whitmer. Scott has also served as vice chairman of the Clinton Area Transit System and past president of the Michigan Association of Collection Agencies, leading key policy and industry initiatives.
In 2024, Scott launched Parking Lot Pickleball, an energetic, on-demand experience that transforms concrete and grass surfaces into vibrant pop-up pickleball events. By blending sports, music, and community engagement, he continues creating spaces where people feel alive, connected, and lifted.
Scott is the author of Lift Others as You Climb, a personal and practical guide to resilience, leadership, and meaningful impact. The book helps readers move through adversity, grow through their scars, and lift the people around them. At its core, it reflects Scott’s enduring belief that success means nothing unless others rise with you.
That belief inspired him to create the Mountain Climbers Men’s Circle, a weekly gathering focused on honesty, accountability, and intentional growth among men. He also mentors youth across the country, leading music and leadership clinics—including with the seven-time world champion Cavaliers Drum & Bugle Corps—helping young performers build confidence, discipline, and self-awareness.
Scott is the co-inventor of Prom Remodeled, a prom-themed gala benefiting the Detroit nonprofit Life Remodeled. The event has raised over $1 million in just three years to transform abandoned buildings into opportunity hubs, expand education and workforce programs, and mobilize thousands of volunteers.
Most recently, Scott was invited by David Provost, former President and CEO of Talmer Bancorp and a founding member of the Detroit Athletic Club Briefcase Drill Team, to help revive this iconic comedic precision performance group. Under Idle’s leadership, the team returned to national prominence and included women for the first time during its 2025 appearance at America’s Thanksgiving Parade, blending tradition with a fresh vision of representation and joy.
Whether coaching, performing, or leading purpose-driven projects, Scott Idle brings energy, imagination, and intention to every stage he steps onto. Across all arenas of his life, his work reflects one unwavering commitment: lifting others as he climbs—through the power of sports, music, and community.
